Why must you hurt?
Why must you cry?

I am helpless,
I cannot change the past
nor can I persuade the future.

As I stand here bound by
the choices we made;
I realize that you are bound by
the choices we didn't.

Do not hide within the walls
you have built,
there you will not find
the safety you desire.

Open your heart,
but, not to me, to yourself;
Honesty will lead you to peace.

These are truths I have learned
as I have attempted ro rise
from the ashes of my dreams.

Forgiveness heals the past
as we start to find the future;
a very different future
than we once believed.
